Tracey B Johnson, LCSW, created Practical Parenting in Portland, Oregon after working with families and child care providers/teachers in a variety of ways for over 12 years. Practical Parenting is designed to reach out to families in their homes & communities to help increase the fun, & decrease the frustrations, of normal day to day family life.

It takes courage to seek ways to change the way your family works, we want to help you find the tools and ideas that will work for YOU and YOUR family.

WHAT DO WE DO?

In home consultations in which we work with you to identify the main challenges you deal with everyday. Then we will develop a plan together to move toward change in your home starting THAT DAY.

YOU decide what you want to change, WE help you change it.

After a 1.5 hour initial consultation, you will have proven strategies and techniques to use right away. You can then schedule other sessions as you need/want them.

Parent workshops in the community to address a variety of common parenting challenges. Topics can be tailored to fit the needs of your group! Join our e-mailing list to be alerted to upcoming workshops! Simply email your request to: practicalparenting@comcast.net. Your private contact information will always be kept confidential.

School visits in which we can help you and your child’s teacher help your child be more successful in his/her school or day care environment. This can include assistance with IEP development/school advocacy.

Preschool/child care staff trainings in the community. We can come to your center and offer the state required continuing education credits for your staff. Topics can be tailored to fit the needs of your center/staff.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PROGRAMS? FROM READING BOOKS?

No family or child is exactly the same. This is why reading books or going to a parenting class or seminar often doesn’t create the change you were hoping for. Our program is designed specifically to fit YOUR family. We can help you increase the effectiveness of your parenting style by integrating new techniques or tweaking the ones you are already using.

WHAT IS THE COST?

Initial phone consultation is FREE.
Initial 1.0 hour consultation - $150.00 (this includes 2 email follow-ups)

School visits are billed hourly at $100/hr.
